Where to stay in Bali

Bali is blessed with an extraordinary abundance of top quality hotels, resorts and spas, all offering superb facilities for families as well as excellent service.

What are hotels like in Bali like?

Below are a selection of our favourites with suggestions for a centrally located mid-range boutique resort in Ubud, a gorgeous spa hotel at Sanur beach and a nature resort near the West Bali National Park.

The Beji Ubud Resort is located close to the centre of Ubud making life easy for families who wish to simply wander the markets of this fascinating town and explore independently without having to get in a vehicle. It manages to offer peaceful accommodation in a tranquil garden setting yet at close proximity to the many galleries, restaurants, shops and bars.

It is built into the hillside providing gorgeous views of the rice terraces and woodlands. Family rooms with living spaces are available as well as delightful traditional two-storey lumbungs overlooking the tropical gardens. Several infinity pools provide endless opportunities for children to cool off before sampling some fabulous local delicacies either in the hotel restaurant or the nearby night market of Ubud.

Inevitably any holiday to Bali will finish at the beach and there are numerous options to choose from. One of our favourites is the Griya Santrian which has the somewhat cheesy strapline ‘where everyone is family’ – but that suits us perfectly! Centrally located on the white sandy beach of Sanur and within walking distance to local shops, restaurants and markets, the Griya Santrian offers a fantastic array of activities for families. These include canoeing on the calm waters of Sanur, bike tours (child seats available), traditional egg-panting, flower basket weaving and wood carving, cookery classes and a beach BBQ as well as the usual snorkelling and diving opportunities.

It also has three swimming pools plus a children’s pool, several restaurants and even its own art gallery but we think that the children will just want to spend all their time on the gorgeous white sandy beach – is this the most amazing location for the world’s biggest sandcastle?!

The Naya Gawana Resort and Spa is a hidden jewel, located on the tip of monsoon rainforest in North West Bali. Blending adventure and nature, the resort is ideally located to visit the natural delights of West Bali (Bali Barat) National Park with jungle trekking expeditions and exploration by kayak. You can also take a short boat ride to Menjangan Island for some of the world’s best snorkelling and diving over pristine coral. Enjoy meals under the stars down at the shoreline in the Bay Restaurant or sip cool drinks in the pool with incredible views over the mangrove swamps and Menjangan Bay. Family suites are built within timber bungalows, furnished in traditional style and offering al fresco bathrooms – kids will love it!
