Family holidays in Cuba

Cuba is the largest of the Caribbean islands. It’s a lush and tropical land that is home to rolling coffee plantations, densely forested mountains and stunning limestone karst scenery. The gorgeous tropical beaches are pretty fantastic too, providing a wonderful finale to any family holiday in Cuba.

The towns here are picturesque, with crumbling colonial buildings painted in pastel hues and beautiful whitewashed churches. All the family will enjoy the tiny little piazzas where you can find a small café and listen to some salsa, while admiring the occasional classic cars that rumble by.

Although tourism is beginning to gather pace in Cuba it is still wonderfully easy to get off the beaten track with your family, spending nights in traditional casas (B&Bs). During the day you can explore the cobbled alleyways of hill-top towns or hike into the mountains to take a dip in a waterfall. You can take a gentle bike ride through a colonial plantation or ride a horse-cart through the verdant fields. Then at the end of the day, sink back into a hammock to watch the world go by.

John Lennon Park Havana - Family holidays in Cuba

Remembering John Lennon

Why take the kids?

Here are some of the activities we can include on a family holiday to Cuba:

  1. Classic car tour through the streets of old Havana
  2. Sit next to a legend in John Lennon Park
  3. Exploring the beautiful countryside in Vinales on horse back
  4. Taking a dip in the cooling waters of the San Juan waterfall
  5. Zip-lining through the rainforest canopy
  6. Swimming in turquoise water off picture-perfect beaches
  7. Biking or hiking through the impressive national parks

Cuba is renowned for its friendly locals and you will find that families and children are welcomed with open arms. Many families choose to stay for at least part of their holiday in the local casas (B&Bs). These are fabulous and provide a brilliant opportunity to meet local people and to introduce your children to life in Cuba.

The island is relatively small and although not all of the roads are in great condition, driving times are not too long. This is of course a great bonus for family travellers and minimises the risk of the dreaded ‘are we nearly there yet?’.

To top all of this off, the entire island is fringed with idyllic beaches. This means that you can intersperse your sightseeing with time spent relaxing on a blissful stretch of powder white sand. The perfect end to an exciting family holiday in Cuba!
