Guatemala

When to go to Guatemala

Guatemala is known as The Land of Eternal Spring. Temperatures are mild and vary little during the year.  The dry season runs from January to April and from May to the beginning of December is traditionally the rainy season. Being a tropical country, it can of course rain at any time – usually short, sharp downpours interspersed with sunshine.  The only time we do not recommend visiting is in June and also September and October which is considered hurricane season.

January

This is the beginning of the dry season so the rain will decrease as the month progresses. There should be lots of sunshine so this is a great time to visit. It is not too hot and there is usually a cooling breeze.

February

A great time to visit with lots of sunshine and little rain.

March

A great time to visit with lots of sunshine and little rain.

April

A great time to visit with lots of sunshine. There may be some rain but this will usually be a brief shower that will just cool you off.

May

This is the end of the dry season and rainfall increases as the month progresses. However, there should still be plenty of sunshine and this is a good time to travel.

June

The rainy season is in full force and June is often the wettest month. There will be intermittent sunshine but with temperatures over 25°, this is not an ideal month to travel.

July

Although this is now the rainy season July is still a popular time to travel and there will be plenty of sunshine. However you should also expect some showers during your stay and there can be spectacular thunderstorms at night.

August

Although this is now the rainy season August is still a popular time to travel and there will be plenty of sunshine. However you should also expect some showers during your stay and there can be spectacular thunderstorms at night. Rainfall increases towards the end of the month.

September

Hurricane season with heavy and persistent rain at times. Not an ideal time to travel.

October

Hurricane season with heavy and persistent rain at times. Not an ideal time to travel.

November

This is a very variable month as the wet season is coming to an end and the rainfall can vary from one year to the next. Expect a bit of everything with bouts of sunshine but still some rain. It is not too hot and there is usually a cooling breeze.

December

This is the end of the wet season and by the Christmas holidays, there should be lots of sunshine and not much rain. It is also the coolest time of year with temperatures ranging from 10° in the highlands to 20° in the lowlands.  This is a great time to visit.
