Hi Liddy. Here are our thoughts on holidaying in Georgia: Amazing food. The people are incredibly generous and love to feed you. We met very few English tourists, but our guide happily translated for us when we were out and about. They are also passionate about wine and the heritage of how they make it. Our meals with local hosts were delicious and I loved the markets.

The mountains are incredible. We opted not to hike, but there are lots of places to go walking and exploring. Georgia is steeped in ancient stories and architecture. It has been invaded many times and there is a strange mix of Russian and Persian influences that make it quite unique. The language is also special (and visually fascinating) and we enjoyed learning words and connecting with such friendly welcoming people.

It’s an incredibly beautiful place – pomegranate trees, grape vines everywhere, cows wondering across the road, stray dogs, open-hearted people and the sounds of polyphonic singing…

Our guide and driver were fabulous. They were both young and optimistic about their developing country. Our driver was also a professional traditional dancer and our guide a singer! They were great fun and incredibly keen to make sure we had a fantastic time. Everything ran smoothly – the trip was well balanced and informative.

There are a lot of churches to visit and it’s an important aspect of their history. Younger families might struggle with this, but many of the churches are in amazing places (like having to go over a wobbly bridge!) and these visits were balanced with other activities such as making khinkali dumplings, strange jam tasting and also a felt-making workshop!

The two cave cities were incredible – 2nd century BC and 12th century AD – and great to roam around.

Tbilisi is beautiful. Our hotel was close to everything and evenings could be spent wandering the colourful streets and eating many delights – no-one could resist the khachapuri cheese bread! We also went to a little puppet theatre which was great fun!

Also, it is very cheap to live very well in Georgia! Meals are shared plates and the two of us ate our fill most nights for £10-£20. Bought a cashmere scarf for £14. We took very little cash and struggled to spend it!

We really enjoyed our trip to Georgia with its fascinating history, both ancient and modern. The people were really friendly, the mountains amazing and the food delicious. We enjoyed our time in Tbilisi, the cave cities and hiking. Gabby, our guide, was really great – she was knowledgeable and interesting and thought of everything.

In Tbilisi, the food tour was excellent and we booked some time in one of the sulphur baths, which was a fun experience.

Thank you very much for helping us plan this trip and all the support during the trip.
