When to go to Greece

Greece has a typical Mediterranean climate with hot and sunny summers and cool to cold winters. The best time to go to Greece depends on what activities you and your family want to do – the summer months are perfect for water based activities and exploring the coast and islands. Spring and Autumn are ideal for hiking, kayaking and rafting but can be too cool for much sea swimming. Winter is cold and whilst great for a city break, it is not the ideal season for making the most of Greece’s many outdoor activities.

January

This is winter time. Temperatures will be cold and there may be some rain. Although you may like to consider a city break during winter (Athens sees average temperatures of around 10°C at this time of year), it’s not warm enough for many of the outdoor activities.
