When to go to South Korea

The best times of year to visit South Korea are spring (April to May) and autumn (September to November) when the weather is mild, dry and ideal for exploring. In spring (Easter or May half term), you’ll enjoy peak cherry blossom season and May lantern festivals, whilst October (October half term) is the best to witness colourful autumn leaf peeping display.

January

January is the coldest month of the year, when snow falls, and temperatures range from -6°C  to 2°C. We don’t recommend travelling to South Korea now.

February

Bitterly cold, with temperatures ranging from  -4°C  to 5°C. We don’t recommend travelling to South Korea now.

March

Temperatures warm throughout the month, from -1°C  to 10°C. If visiting during the Easter holidays, you’ll need to prepare for temperature fluctuations and try and visit as late in the month as possible.

April

Mild and pleasant, ideal for outdoor sightseeing and catching the cherry and plum blossom during the Easter holidays. Average temperatures range from 5°C  to 18°C.

May

Warm and sunny with little, if any, rainfall and one of the most popular months to travel. Ideal for the May half term.

June

Warm and sunny at the beginning of the month but rainy season starts by the end of the month. Temperatures range from 16°C to 27°C.

July

The wettest and most humid month of the year, with highs of 29 degrees. We don’t recommend travelling to South Korea now.

August

The wettest and most humid month of the year, with highs of 29 degrees. We don’t recommend travelling to South Korea now.

September

Starts warm but turning cooler as the month goes on. A good time to travel to South Korea.

October

An ideal time to travel during the October half term where you’ll enjoy peak autumn colours in cool but dry weather. Temperatures range from 20°C  to 9°C at the end of the month. Pack warm clothes for the evenings.

November

This is the month which marks the transition to winter, with average temperatures going from 12°C at the start of the month to 3°C at the end. We don’t recommend travelling to South Korea now.

December

Freezing temperatures and the first falls of snow. Expect temperatures to drop below freezing. We don’t recommend travelling to South Korea now.
