When to go to Turkey

Turkey can be visited all year round – with Easter to October normally considered the best times. Generally speaking, it gets very hot during the peak summer months of July and August so the coast may be more comfortable than inland locations such as Cappadocia. Budget airlines fly throughout the year so if you are looking for some Xmas sunshine then the Turquoise Coast could be the perfect place for a family Christmas holiday.

January

A good time to visit Istanbul out of the peak summer tourist months. The Turquoise Coast should be warm enough to enjoy exploring (but not swimming) with average daytime temperatures around 15°C. Although it will be chilly in Cappadocia, it is still possible to explore all the main sites – without the crowds. Seeing White Valley in the snow can be a magical experience!

March

Temperatures are on the rise throughout the country although evenings may still be on the cool side, especially in Cappadocia. This is an excellent time to visit with warm, sunny days on the Turquoise Coast although it is still too cool for most water sports. The streets of Istanbul are relatively quiet compared to the main holiday periods.

April

A great choice for the Easter holidays. Warm sunny days on the Turquoise Coast and Cappadocia making exploration much more comfortable before the searing heat of the summer months. It is still considered a little on the cool side for sunbathing and beach activities. Depending on the year, Ramadan may fall during this month.

May

June

Temperatures are on the rise however this is still ahead of the main tourist season so Istanbul can be enjoyed in comfort. Availability on the Turquoise Coast is not yet at a premium. Explore Cappadocia and Ephesus just before the intense heat of the summer months.

July

Hot! However it is a dry heat and most families can cope with this provided they make the best of the cooler morning temperatures and take it easy in the heat of the day. Major sites (especially Ephesus due to cruise ship itineraries) will also be busy so we try to schedule visits for early or late in the day. The refreshing waters of the Mediterranean make the Turquoise Coast the place to be – explore ruins after breakfast then head to the sea.
