Argentina

When to go to Argentina

Argentina is such a long and large country and has such a varied topography that it is difficult to pinpoint the best time to visit. The climate is mostly temperate with seasons reversed from those in the northern hemisphere. Winter is June to September and summer lasts from December to March. In the north (around Iguazu and the Ibera Wetlands) it is more tropical while in southern Patagonia the weather might be cold and windy (and extremely unpredictable).

Broadly speaking, Patagonia and the Lake District are best visited during the Christmas holidays or during an early Easter. The centre and north of the country will be hot over Christmas but ideal for a visit over Easter or October half term. July and August will be a good time to visit the north with warm daytime temperatures and cooler nights.

January

Hot and humid in Buenos Aires. In the Northwest days are very warm and humid with sometimes heavy rains which may restrict travel in certain areas. In Patagonia weather may be a little chilly due to the wind but it should still be sunny. Weather here is extremely unpredictable and varies a lot from morning to afternoon. This is the perfect time for the Lake District.
