Croatia on Camera! Family Holiday Photos of Croatia

Croatia on Camera! Family Holiday Photos of Croatia

Croatia, as a family destination, didn’t just creep up the popularity stakes when we introduced it in our destination portfolio but exploded. No wonder! Boasting nearly 6,000 kilometres of crystalline coastline, picturesque medieval cities, abundant national parks and laid-back island culture make the perfect recipe for exciting active adventures with just the right amount of R&R.

Given Croatia’s understandable popularity, we include a more authentic, ‘hidden’ side to the destination, from cooking classes and vineyard visits, rural cycle tracks, aquatic adventure, as well as the must-do hotspots like Dubrovnik or Split. Don’t take our word for it, though. Here, we’ve shared some of YOUR holiday snaps to show just a glimpse of what to expect on an Adriatic summer family holiday! Dobrodošli! (Welcome!).

Boy cliff jumping Croatia

Literally leap into azure-blue waters, whether cliff jumping or from any boat trip, particularly around the stunning island of Brac, which we visit in our Island Hopping in Croatia sample itinerary. Swimming and snorkelling are also on the aquatic agenda.

Family white-water rafting in Croatia

It doesn’t have to be a white-knuckle ride to enjoy a white-water rafting adventure. Here, on the Cetina River, rafting is a family-friendly bonding adventure, whizzing down relatively gentle rapids and ducking the odd tree branch!

Woo Hoo! Older children and teens may opt for the more adventurous river kayaking on the Zrmanja River (see Places to visit in Croatia). We’re reliably informed that the pictured teen is not still wedged on that rock!

Girl singing at the Roman ruins in Pula, on Croatia family holiday

Like this Stubborn Mule family, Croatia’s atmospheric towns and cities really put on a show for culture vultures. Explore Roman Palaces in Split, the medieval squares and 14th century fortifications in Korčula (aka ‘Little Dubrovnik) to Dubrovnik itself.

Family cycling in Pula - Croatia in photos

Whilst water-based activities are the mainstay of Croatian adventures, Stubborn Mule families love exploring the peaceful rural trails along the coast, through ancient vineyards and olive groves.

Visit a vineyard on a Croatia trip, near Lumbarda, Korcula Island

Parents report that visiting a family-run winery (hic!) on Korčula island for some refreshments is a particular highlight!

Kids snorkelling - Croatia in Photos

With a typical Mediterranean climate, summer in Croatia is hot, with sunshine guaranteed! (See When to Go) There’s always a chance to cool off, though, especially welcome after an active day.

Croatia in photos - kayaking from Lopud Island to sea caves

Sea kayaking between Croatia’s islands is brilliant fun for all ages, with or without kids (or grandkids!). See our multigenerational holiday feature for more holidays with grandparents.

Plitvice Lakes National Park

One of Croatia’s most jaw-dropping natural wonders are the emerald waters at Plitvice National Park. 16 crystal clear lakes and 90 waterfalls draw big crowds, so we ensure our families get the first morning tickets of the day!

It’s an early start for Plitvice but worth it for the spectacular views without the crowds.

Split room with a view, Croatia holiday

A room with a view in Split! No further words necessary!

Ziplining in Split on Croatia family trip

Other Croatian views are available, though, like a bird’s eye view from one of several ziplines throughout the country. Our favourite is the one at Omis, which can get your Croatia Short Break off to an adrenaline-fuelled start!

Via Ferrata Croatia family climbing

Alternatively, for those who prefer to scramble rather than dangle, the Via Ferrata at Omis has your name on it.

Hvar Island, Croatia, view of the old city taken from the castle, looking out to sea. Visit on an island hopping family itinerary

The island of Hvar may be best known for its lively nightlife, but its Old Town, Stari Grad, is one of the oldest towns in Europe, dating back to 384 BC. For the best views like this, head to Tvrdava Fortica, the Spanish fortress. It’s quite the climb!

Family taking a selfie in Dubrovnik

Put YOUR family in the picture with a selfie overlooking not only one of Dalmatia’s most beautiful cities, but the world’s, Dubrovnik.

Family enjoying a night out in Dubrovnik - Croatia in photos

After the heat of the day subsides, Dubrovnik’s streets come to life with tourists and locals packing street-side restaurants. Great food and oh, the people watching!

Dining al fresco on a family holiday in Croatia

Push the boat out and watch the sun set in style with al fresco dining pretty much everywhere in our Croatia itineraries.

East delicious food on a Croatia family trip, customer photo of langoustines followed by chocolate ganache

Can we recommend the seafood, Madam? Freshly caught and simply cooked is the way to the whole family’s hearts, we promise! Not to forget chocolate ganache to follow…

Kids Kayaking - Croatia in photos

There are plenty of sea kayaking opportunities all along Croatia’s vast coastline, but we are particularly partial to a guided expedition exploring the many peaceful coves and inlets that surround the island of Brac.

Sunset in Zadar, Croatia

Enjoy the glorious sunsets almost anywhere along the coast. Grab a beer or an ice cream and join the locals for an evening amble.
