Sweden family holidays

Sweden is a country packed full of natural delights for families who enjoy time on the coast, in the cities or deep amongst the forests of the interior. Take time to unwind and enjoy family fun and ‘fika’, the wonderful Swedish tradition of pausing and re-charging – over pastries! A Sweden family holiday offers year-round options: enjoy leisurely summer nights by the sea or spot the Northern Lights in wintry Lapland. This makes Sweden a fantastic destination for both a first AND second visit!

In the summer, you’ll find long days and warm evenings, perfect for hiking, biking and kayaking, exploring the countryside, lakes and endless coastline. With more islands than any other country in the world, children will love getting out onto the water, trying their hand at crab fishing or casting a line for the catch of the day, then heading deep into the woods in search of wildlife.

Kayaking with our guides is a family favourite in the calm waters of the southwest coast

On our winter holidays to Sweden, you’ll arrive to crisp, freezing temperatures, forests blanketed in snow and the Aurora Borealis dancing across the sky while you sip hot chocolate or relax in a hot tub under the stars. And of course a combination of reindeer and huskies is always a winner with our families.

Lots of fun feeding moose on a Sweden family holiday

Feeding time for the famous moose in Swedish Lapland

A Sweden family holiday is a fantastic adventure for any age. Perfect for families who want to break away from the all-inclusive resorts and start younger kids off with a gentle adventure not too far from home. For getting tech-obsessed or exam-stressed teens back into nature. Meet locals who will welcome you to small fishing villages and charming coastal towns. Feed a moose or search for beavers in the countryside. Or simply relax and get away from the hustle and bustle. With its long coastline, island archipelagos and endless forests, lakes and mountains, there is plenty of fresh air and room to breathe in Sweden.

How to get around Sweden

Travelling around Sweden is easy. We use a mix of rental cars (often electric, so cheaper to operate), short internal flights or trains – which run to schedule! English is widely spoken and there is a huge range of family-friendly accommodation on offer. There are fantastic options for eco-lodges, luxury winter glamping tipis, cosy family-run B&Bs and traditional holiday cottages or more quirky accommodation like historic castles, floating cabins or treehouses.
