Where to stay with your family in Sweden

Sweden’s accommodation spans quite a range, from fishermen’s cottages perched at the water’s edge to grand castle hotels and sharp, stylish city properties.

In the cities, hotels tend to be either sleek and contemporary or historic and quaint. Family rooms and connecting rooms do exist, but they’re not always easy to come by, so if you need more than two separate rooms, it’s well worth booking early. Do bear in mind that the older, more characterful properties often have smaller rooms, so if space and flexibility matter to you, the modern options generally work better for families.

Once you’re out of the city, there is considerably more choice. Family-friendly cottages are easy to find, and two- or three-bedroom properties are common. Many are self-catering, though you’ll also find options that include breakfast and dinner if you’d rather not cook after a day of exploring.

Hotels with swimming pools are relatively rare outside the cities, but not impossible, just let us know if this is a priority and we’ll do our best to factor it in, which will be easier if you’re booking well ahead.

Staying in Lapland
From all the gorgeous options to choose from in Lapland we found it impossible to pick a favourite! A magical remote glamping site with tipi cabins and glass igloos has been a roaring success with our families. Others have preferred being closer to amenities and restaurants.
