Sands Family (with teens aged 16 & 13)
Travelled Summer 2025
Sweden completely captured our hearts on our recent family trip, including our two teenagers. The people are so lovely, welcoming and genuinely friendly, and the outdoorsy mindset here is truly inspiring – everywhere you go, there’s such a sense of respect for nature (no litter anywhere!).
We loved the connection to the outdoors, from wild camping and canoeing through tranquil lakes to a 15-mile hike where we saw only six other people all day. Highlights also included our moose safari, just an hour outside central Stockholm, where you really feel like you’re in true wilderness, and of course exploring the city itself – the Vasa Museum is absolutely mind-blowing and Gamla Stan is picture-perfect pretty.
The cities are spotless and surprisingly affordable for eating out. We’d love to go back in the winter, imagining it will feel like a completely different world – almost Narnia-esque.
Dear Family (2 adults)
Travelled Winter 2025
Sweden in the winter was absolutely magical – after a short city break in Stockholm, we flew to a snow-covered Kiruna which was -17 degrees! We were then whisked off into the wilderness for a whole array of activities: dog sledding, ice fishing, snow-shoeing and outdoor campfires with warm soup, homemade bread and then, toasted marshmallows.
To be able to explore this vast, snowy landscape with the local Sami people felt like such a privilege. One moment we were stepping over the Arctic Circle, the next we were warming up by a toasty fire in a traditional log cabin!
We met reindeer, moose and sled dogs – and beyond lucky to have spotted the Northern Lights a few times! Not to mention, the food was incredible at all of the lodges we stayed at – all locally sourced and we were looked after so well by our hosts. One night we even stayed in a safari inspired tipi on the banks of a frozen lake!
So exciting to wake up to fresh moose prints in the snow knowing we were in such an untouched environment – I honestly can’t recommend Swedish Lapland enough. All the touches of a winter wonderland, wrapped in such a special, cosy atmosphere.
