Hi Liddy. Thank you so very much for such a wonderful opportunity to visit Australia. From start to finish the trip was stunning. Watching the wallabies from the bird hide and sunset over the marshes, the real live 4X Aussie pub, tiny airplanes, cave paintings and bush-walking, passionate tales of the aboriginal people, the nearest to Crocodile Dundee I’ll ever get, terrifying crocs, river sunsets, bouncing through the bush with Ryan and more crocs and cave paintings and that was just the first leg. Alice Springs and the Flying Doctor Museum not to mention the memorial and the Botanic Gardens – goodness we fitted a lot in – very nice hotel I could happily have lingered in but off at dawn across the desert for one of my very favourite days – stunning canyons, slightly less stunning rock scramble (!) but well rewarded with the cool off pool and then off through the ever-changing landscape and the dirt road to Kings Canyon.

The Canyon walk was particularly memorable and I probably have 50 photos to remember it by. Glamping was quite something if a bit hot as was the lady from Dorset! – a phenomenon/a one only meets travelling.

Uluru was hugely powerful and much more affecting than one thought a rock could be – something about the smooth immensity and changing colours and Kata Tjuta was stunning again with its verdant valleys between the domes. Of course, one mustn’t forget the camel ride and trying to keep my eyes open for the dinner in the desert, stars and all.

Off to our extraordinarily beautiful lodge and our room overlooking the bay – no time to linger though! – we had crocs to see and beaches to find in the northeastern tropical forest. Managing to avoid emu, kangaroo and croc burgers to be served the best ever sweet potato chips was a definite gastronomic highlight as so unexpected, as were the ice creams. The boat trip to the Barrier Reef was very special and one won’t forget the coral, the clams and all those brightly coloured fish, nor the time sailing without the engine round the island.

I was very pleased to be able to complete the Cape to Cape walk which was very rewarding with its magnificent coastal views and impressive forests. The time in Sydney was wonderful as well with our BridgeClimb, the harbour and views of the Opera House and Bridge, the Manly Ferry, our wonderful picnic on the rock, my trip to the Blue Mountains and walks around the harbour foreshore.

It was such a memorable trip and a special experience. Thank you so very much.
