Indonesia & Bali

When to go to Bali

Being a tropical country, Indonesia has two main seasons, and tends to be either hot and wet or hot and dry. The dry time is normally from June to September (which is also the peak time for tourists to visit), though it can be dry from as early as April to as late as November. During this period you will have plenty of sunshine. Even during the rainy season there is usually a bit of sunshine as the downpours tend to be short, sharp and severe (and quite fun!).

The weather is summarised by month in the table below. This is for the areas visited as part of our sample itinerary. Indonesia is huge so if you are thinking of travelling to other parts of the country, please speak to us and we will be able to give you specific information for your chosen destinations.

January

This is one of the wettest months of the year and although there may be the odd day of sunshine, the skies will be generally overcast and showers are frequent and heavy.

February

Weather conditions are similar to January with lots of rainfall expected.

March

There is still lots of rain around in early March but this starts to tail off as the month progresses. Most of the rainfall can be expected in the late afternoon and evening (often in a very heavy downpour) so the day can often be dry.

April

This is the month when the weather changes and the overcast skies give way to plenty of sunshine and greatly diminished rainfall. This is a good time to visit.

May

Sunshine, blue skies and very little rain. This is the ideal time to visit as it is before the peak tourist season.

June

Sunshine, blue skies and very little rain. This is the ideal time to visit as it is before the peak tourist season.

July

Sunshine, blue skies and very little rain. This is the ideal time to visit! Early booking advised.

August

Sunshine, blue skies and very little rain. This is the ideal time to visit! Early booking advised.

September

Sunshine, blue skies and very little rain. This is the ideal time to visit as it is just outside the peak tourist season.

October

There is still plenty of sunshine around in October although as the month wears on, there is an increased chance of rain with the odd heavy shower.

November

Monsoon has arrived! Expect lots of rain and overcast skies. There can be the odd bit of sunshine but this is the exception rather than the rule.

December

The monsoon is in full swing, with lots of rain. As in November there can be a bit of sunshine but not much.
