When to go to Tanzania
Tanzania is warm all year round (except in the mountains). The main consideration is therefore the amount of rain. March – May is the wet season when the country is at its greenest but some tracks and roads may be difficult to negotiate. This is also not the best time for wildlife viewing as the animals may be obscured by the long grass.
The summer months from June to October are a great time to visit as there is little rain and therefore great wildlife viewing. The great migration usually takes place during August and is a very exciting time to be on safari. On the beach there will be little rain and lots of sunshine!
November through to February is also a good time to visit. There may be some rain but it will not be excessive and there will be plenty of sunshine.
It is worth remembering that in the Ngorongoro Crater most species do not migrate so you will see the same amount of wildlife there, even if you travel in the low season.
January
Warm with occasional rain – a ‘green season’. This is an excellent time to view wildlife. On the coast, Nov-Mar is the best time to have a chance of spotting whale sharks.

March

June
June is warm and it becomes generally drier as the rains finish and the season tips into the dry months. Towards the end of the month conditions are ideal for wildlife viewing as waterholes and riverbanks teem with animals again. Bring some warmer layers for early morning game drives and evening sundowners. The famous Mara River crossing as part of the migration normally takes place in June/July/August.
Conditions on Zanzibar will be beautiful.
