Highlights of Cuba day-to-day itinerary

Day 1 Havana
Arrive at the airport where you will be met by a Stubborn Mule Travel representative and taken to your hotel. The rest of the day is free. Havana is a lovely city and is perfect to explore on foot. The old colonial centre has been immaculately restored and you can spend a wonderful couple of hours following the small streets and alleyways to lively cafes, bars and restaurants.

Day 2 Havana
This morning head out in a classic car for a tour of Havana passing by all of the main attractions. You will then continue on foot with your guide, entering into the lovely old streets of the city, which are difficult to access by vehicle. The afternoon is free for you to further explore on your own.

Day 3 Trinidad
In the morning drive to Trinidad, an immaculately preserved Spanish colonial town perched in the hills with stunning views over the surrounding landscape. The town itself is gorgeous, with narrow cobbled streets, beautiful colonial buildings and a wealth of fabulous cafes and restaurants.

The drive takes around four hours and once you arrive, the rest of the day is free to explore the city.

Day 4 Trinidad
A full day either to explore Trinidad itself or perhaps to visit the nearby Topes de Collante nature reserve, a beautiful region of sugar cane fields, coffee plantations and the backdrop of the Escambray mountains. There are a number of waterfalls and you can take a swim in one of the pools. You could also visit Valle de los Ingenios, or the ‘Valley of the Sugar Mills’ which was the centre of Cuba’s sugar producing industry in the 19th century and which remains very well preserved.

Day 5 Trinidad – Vinales
After breakfast set off for Vinales. The journey takes around 6 hours and will pass through the edge of Havana en route to Vinales. This area is home to some of Cuba’s most lovely scenery. Fields of tobacco stretch across the red-earth plains, broken up by steep sided limestone outcrops, palm trees and small villages that are home to tobacco farmers who till the fields with ox ploughs. This really is one of the most beautiful parts of Cuba and you will spend the afternoon exploring.

You will stop to visit a local tobacco farmer and watch as he rolls a fresh cigar. The afternoon is free to relax at your hotel or further explore on foot.

(If your children are too young to cycle we can arrange a tour by horse and cart instead.)

Day 7 Vinales – Cayo Levisa
Transfer to the dock from where you will take a small boat to Cayo Levisa. This small island is located off the northern shore of Cuba, a beautiful place of white sandy beaches, turquoise water and palm trees. The accommodation is simple, in small beach cabanas, but the snorkelling is wonderful and the views are superb.

Two full days to relax and enjoy the beach..

Day 10 Cayo Levisa – Havana
Return to Havana in time for your flight home.
