Kenya Out of Africa
If you dream of the classic safari, where you’ll spend evenings around a camp fire under a carpet of stars listening to the sounds of the bush, this is the trip for you. Leaving behind the busier parts of Kenya, you’ll be heading into the wild, for unique and incredible wildlife adventures. There’s no skirting the fact that this comes at a cost; these camps are remote and expensive, but they are very, very special. If the budget can possibly stretch, this will absolutely be the holiday-of-a-lifetime for your family.

Kenya Out of Africa day-to-day itinerary
Arrive in Nairobi where you will be met by your guide and accompanied to your hotel. (If you arrive early in the morning, you can fly directly north to your camp).
Day 2 Nairobi – Laikipia
After breakfast you will be transferred to the nearby domestic Wilson airport for a flight to Nanyuki airstrip in the heart of Laikipia.
Laikipia is very different to the rest of Kenya, with miles and miles of unfenced and remote wilderness. The landscape is hugely varied which makes it very rewarding to explore; you can be following a narrow river valley one minute and then the next you turn the corner and are in thick acacia woodland or out on the plains. We use a couple of different camps in this area, each hand picked to ensure that it is suitable for children. We will suggest the best one for your family but in all cases they will be deep in the wilderness, with staggering views over the surrounding landscape.
Days 3-4 Laikipia
You have two full day of activities at the camp. When you first arrive your guide will sit with you to discuss what your family will most enjoy; the exact activities will vary from one camp to another, but might include walking safaris, camel safaris, tracking game on foot (and developing a detailed understanding of various forms of animal poo), rock climbing, swimming, jumping off waterfalls, tubing and visiting local Samburu villages. There will also be game drives which will offer sightings of elephant, giraffe, zebra and other plains game as well as lion and leopard if you are lucky.
One of the highlights for families in this area is the opportunity to enjoy bush breakfasts and sundowners; in this case your camp will set up in a sensational location where you can enjoy a sumptuous breakfast or evening drinks / snacks whilst soaking up the views.
Day 5 Laikipia – Olepangi
Leaving Laikipia behind, head to Olepangi where you will stay in a beautifully tranquil farm in the foothills of Mt Kenya. The views here are stunning, stretching across the farm gardens to the hills beyond. This afternoon perhaps have a game of croquet, explore the farm or relax b y the pool.

A totally different landscape awaits you today, with a visit to Ngare Ndare, a lush indigenous forest in the foothills of Mount Kenya. Follow a quiet trail through the forest and across a suspension bridge to a turquoise pool at the base of a waterfall. Here the children will enjoy jumping in to cool off and enjoy a ‘power shower’ from the falls.
A free day in Olepangi. There is masses to do here; visit the chimpanzee sanctuary in Ol Pejeta, ride horses into the hills surrounding the farm or just relax and enjoy farm life.
Transfer to Nanyuki airport for a flight down to the Masai Mara. When you arrive, you will be picked up by your camp and will enjoy a game drive en route to your accommodation. You will be staying in one of the conservancies that surround the main national park. The entire area is unfenced so that the wildlife moves freely but the conservancies offer a much more exclusive wildlife experience, as only those staying within the conservancy are allowed to do game drive here.
Two full days of game drives. The Masai Mara Game Reserve and the surrounding wildlife conservancies together offer some of the finest game viewing in Africa. The rolling green plains and woodlands are densely packed with a remarkable array of wildlife. All of the ‘big 5’ can be found here….make sure that the children keep their cameras at the ready. Lions are in abundance and you may be lucky enough seeing a pride stalking their prey or perhaps a leopard retrieving its kill from the high branches of an acacia tree. Elephant, giraffe, zebra and gazelle dot the plains together with a wide range of smaller species. Rhino are more difficult to find but you may be lucky; game viewing here is a constant surprise and delight. The scenery is also magnificent with endless plains, picturesque acacia trees and the spectacular Siria escarpment looming to the west.
After a final safari breakfast, take a flight to the coast for four wonderfully relaxing nights on an Indian Ocean beach. There are many here to choose from but all have powder white sand and crystal clear turquoise water; the perfect place to relax after the early morning game drives! We will suggest the best accommodation to suit your family, whether a private villa, small boutique hotel or larger property with plenty of amenities.
Three full days to relax and enjoy the beach. Although we usually leave you with free time on the beach, if you would like us to organise excursions for you we can arrange a visit to the old town of Mombasa, a boat trip in search of dolphins or perhaps a diving course. Please ask us if you would like suggestions.
Transfer to the airport in time for your flight home.
