Peru family holiday

Peru has to be top of our list of favourite South American destinations. In a continent full of incredible archaeological ruins, spectacular scenery, unique eco-systems and colourful markets, there is some tough competition. But a Peru family holiday really does have it all.

Back to basics on a Peru family holiday

Who can resist the lure of the remarkable Inca civilisation and the incredible site of Machu Picchu? It’s impossible not to be charmed by the cobbled streets of Cusco, the delightful churches of Arequipa and the clear waters of Lake Titicaca. Even the kids will love to cycle through the spectacular Sacred Valley. Here you’ll pass by ancient ruins, friendly villages and houses covered in bright pink bougainvillea.

And what’s more the food is great, the people are delightful and the scenery is stunning. Family holidays to Peru really do tick every box, even those you didn’t know you had!

Why take the kids?

A Peru family holiday is a massive adventure for children. They will love searching for tarantulas in the Amazon, living the simple life on a homestay on Lake Titicaca and exploring the nooks and crannies of Inca ruins. Not to forget watching the condors fly on thermals above the Colca Canyon and trying out their haggling skills at the colourful Pisac market.

They can go hiking, cycling, white water rafting and horse-riding. They can take a cookery class, climb into the rainforest canopy and fish for piranhas. They can learn the difference between a llama and an alpaca and camp in a remote Andean village. Just imagine all the stories that they can tell when returning to school!

Our top activities on a Peru family holiday include:

  1. Climbing to Machu Picchu’s Sun Gate for awe-inspiring views of the ancient citadel
  2. Eating the local speciality of roasted guinea pig
  3. Taking in the cacophony of sounds on an Amazon night walk
  4. Cycling along ancient Inca pathways in the Sacred Valley
  5. Bargaining for presents in Cusco’s lively central market
  6. Watching huge condors soar on the thermals in Colca Canyon
  7. Hiking the spectacular Inca Trail if all the family love a challenge
