Ecuador & Galapagos itineraries
Ecuador is a wonderfully compact country offering a huge variety of different scenery in a relatively small space. From the snow-capped volcanoes and high Andean mountains to the lush patchwork of undulating fields in the valleys and dense jungle of the Amazon rainforest it offers something for all ages and preferences. Our two example itineraries ‘Volcanoes & Jungle’ and ‘Ecuador & Galapagos Highlights’ demonstrate how you could either spend all your holiday on the mainland or split your adventure between mainland Ecuador and the Galapagos.
If you want to tick off another great highlight of South America, you can combine a visit to the Galapagos with time in Peru to visit the fabled ruins at Machu Picchu.

There are of course lots of variations. For example active families with older children might want to tackle the summit of Cotopaxi (why not climb a live volcano on your holidays?!) or for those with a wildlife bias you may prefer to travel deeper into the Amazon by flying to Coca in the heart of the rainforest. Or you could head south to the gorgeous colonial city of Cuenca, which is bizarrely the home to the Panama hat, or even further south to Peru, to combine your wildlife experience with a visit to the remote mountain citadel of Machu Picchu… We will be able to advise what will suit your family.
Remember that when planning a holiday in Ecuador it is imperative that you allow time to acclimatise to ensure that you are not adversely affected by the altitude in the highlands. Quito lies at 2,850m – hey, start your holiday on a high!
